What does it mean DCIM?

Yes, there are a lot of shortcuts in the IT world. Some of them are used to simplify the communication between experts, some other are just wisely created by marketing dudes to announce some old things in new words. DCIM? Well, it's a good example of a new term for quite a new type of software. Yet, very crucial for any managed data center. DCIM stands from: Data Center Infrastructure Management. So, forget about hundreds of spreadsheets, photos, wiki pages, network shares and other improvised tools used to manage data center assets and infrastructure. Evolve with your infrastructure to become professional. Use DCIM software, if you don't have any similar solution implemented today.

Covering clouds

After more than 25 years of experience in the netherworld between technology and business, let’s say I’m more than a bit skeptical about many of the claims people are making about the cloud – said Bob Deutsche (Intel) in his latest article, titled Let’s Get real About the Cloud, published in famous Data Center Knowledge portal dedicated to data center industry and all related things (I really recommend reading at this point).

Is it possible to reduce cooling costs in data center?

Of course it is. There are several methods. The most common is to make some audit using all possible tools and methods, which are really easy accessible. You don't have to use advanced technology – classic thermometer can be enough for simple analysis and if you have thermographic camera you're really well equipped (if not, consider to rent one for limited period of time or ask for third party service).

Data center containers, everywhere!

Regardles of time or location, someone is always using a computing technology... These are the most adequate words from Emerson's Data Center container advertisement I've found on YouTube. Have I told how much I'm impressed about data center containers? Well, if not, then – yes I'm really impressed how much time we need to discover this simple solution. We're using computing technology since last few decades, we're building data centers from the early beginning of the computing and these containers are so attractive since last few years. Of course, in some specific industries or in military such mobile solutions were known, especially in the field of radiolocation, or telecommunications, but there were no officially advertised all-in-one containers. Anyway, that's good we have such option today.

Modularity means flexibility

Modular data centers? Yes, this is very interesting concept, but somehow misunderstood. Please note, I don't think about mobile containers, used mainly for disaster recovery purposes or in all these strange inaccessible places where we need some computing power, but I'm talking about modular data center design. Modular means: standardized, easy to maintain and upgrade - and this last feature is the key for me, but let me tell you a little bit more.
